Known probably more for their slide on campers Travelander have a range of camper trailers that follow the same style and design as their slide ons. The fully imported premium offering in the fibreglass camper trailers is the GEO Convert 2. This is a left hand side fold hard floor camper trailer with a host of extra features as standard.
The Geo Convert 2 comes with the very handy automatic set-up aided by a remote control key ring. It is extremely easy to set-up, as there is no back breaking exercise of opening and closing the camper. Entry to the Travelander camper trailer is from the left hand rear, via the canvas door. The kitchen is located at the rear of the camper trailer, which when open is sheltered from the sun, as the kitchen door when opened sits hinged on gas struts above your head. The Travelander GEO Convert 2 chassis is constructed with 100 x 50mm beams, manufactured with lugs, scrub bars and other anchor points, before being hot dip galvanised for longevity of life. This chassis rides on independent trailing arm suspension with coils and shock absorbers, LandCruiser wheels and tyres and 10″ electric brakes. There is an optional independent air bag system along with the shock absorbers; where each air bag manually adjusts to level the floor when setting up camp. The rear of the chassis design, allows a bike carrier to be fitted, for those who enjoy a bike ride through the country towns that you visit.
The size of the trailer is Length 4600mm x Width 2000mm x Height 1950mm, so it is fairly substantial. The design with a large nose cone allows a huge storage area for generators, jerry can outboard motor etc. There is also storage drawers internally under the bed for clothes etc.
Power for the trailer comes from a 12 volt electrical system that runs throughout the main structure, with the allocation of two x 240 volt power plug outlets if running off the 240 volt power inlet. Solar panels can be fitted by a solar panel supplier, to the top of the van to back up the mains supply if you are planning a long trip, however there is a battery charger and inverter which are located inside the camper trailer, along with two 120 amp hour batteries, charged by Anderson plug while driving.
The queen size bed sleeping area is huge and airy with a number of well placed windows. Helping to keep the sun and water out is the tropical roof. Canvas used for the tent, annexe roof and walls is made from a premier outdoor fabric which has been DynaproofedTM to prevent sun penetration. The advantage of the hard floor is not only somewhere to stand and get changed etc but in inclement weather or for overnight stays there is a sizeable area to sit inside. There is also a kitchen shade for quick stops and a main annexe roof which is 8 foot wide and runs the length of the camper when folded out.
There is also another roof shade which is stitched into the main roof on the drivers’ side of the camper trailer, which protects you from the harsh elements of the sun and rain. The roof shade sits over the top of the shower cubical, external storage and 2nd fridge compartment, which allows you access without tempting the elements.
For those that need it the most popular addition to the camper trailer would be a portable toilet, which can be placed in the shower cubical for privacy and use. When travelling, you can store a portable toilet in the storage compartments of the front nose cone.
The camper trailer is very roomy and airy inside with large windows and plenty of bed area. There is heaps of storage under and beside the bed as well as external storage cubicles and the overall design is stylish and compact when closed. If you are looking at an off road camper trailer that is easy to put up and down then the Travelander GEO Convert 2, chock full of features, should be on your list.
